A tribute to Goddess Durga:
1.The Sanskrit word Durga means a fort, or a place that is protected and thus difficult to reach.

2.While Shiva is detached from the action, Durga is the doer.Shiva and Durga are regarded as the twofold personalization of Brahman.

3.Maa has three eyes. The left one represents Desire(The Moon), The right eye represents Action(The Sun) and the central eye represents Knowledge(The Fire).

4. Mother's Trident(Trishul)  represents three forces: Satya(inactivity),Raja(activity with ambition) and Tama( Lethargy)

5.Mother sits on the lion with her "Abhay Mudra" which represents Freedom from Fear.

6.While she killed Mahisasura(who had realized Durga's divine power before his death), She placed her Left Leg on his body.
