The government has launched the .bharat domain name in devanagari script covering eight languages.
With the launch, individuals of companies who are interested in owning a website with domain name in Hindi language would be able to book the name in Hindi script.
The name would have '.bharat' in Hindi script as its extension instead of commonly top level domains such as .com, .net or .in.
The govt is planning to take it beyond the initial 8 languages in which the program was launched.
Through the project is worth around Rs 35,000 crore The govt. plans to connect 2.6 lakh villages through the National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) within next 3 years.
This could help e-commerce reach the remote places and promote connectivity and employment.
